Don't Expect Buhari To Build Sky Scrapers- Okorocha

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state, has said that Nigerians should not expect the administration of President Mohammadu Buhari, to build sky scrapers. Okorocha stated this at the Imo state polythecnic Umuagwo, during the 5th convocation ceremony of the institution. Also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir David Lawal, said that corruption has dwarfed Nigeria and prevent it from progressing. Chief Rochas Okorocha Okorocha added that Buhari’s administration was only laying the foundation for development. “This is not the time to weep or complain in the struggle to nationhood, it is a time to comply. Nigeria must write the history of this recession just like other developed nations in their journey to greatness. “President Buhari is building a strong foundation for sustainable growth of the nation. Whoever that is waiting for Buhari to build sky scrapers and historic tunnels may be wasting time as his job is to lay a solid foundation so that successive governments will have a good foundation to build upon. “We must all support him and pray for him as his coming as the President is divine and its purpose must be fulfilled. Okorocha who also conferred on Emeka Offor, the chairman governing council of the Imo state polytechnic also said that the days of frivolities has gone. He said: “We must adopt wisdom by tying this institution around the neck of successful business men in our society because government alone cannot carry this responsibility. “To the graduands, the institution has honoured them with certificates after years of tiling, reading, burning candles, but let me tell you that this is the beginning of your journey. “The certificate in your hands would determine your future depending on how you apply and use it. The days of white collar jobs are gone. The days of frivolities are over. This is the time to think outside the box and see a way to contribute your quota to nationhood.” Also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir David Lawal, said that corruption has dwarfed Nigeria and prevent it from progressing. The SGF, who was conferred with a fellowship award of the institution noted that “What has held us down as a nation is corruption.” According to the release, “In this bid, we must in earnest commence a new journey of rapid and sustained economic growth that will usher in prosperity for all our citizens. “Despite the challenges that we are confronted with, Nigerians should not despair. The journey for a better Nigeria has commenced in earnest. “Nigeria being a great nation is not in doubt that with our population and natural resources our economy should be amongst the best in the world. What has held us down as a nation is corruption. “Corruption in government at all levels has totally destroyed our nation. It is evident in key sectors like educational system, healthcare delivery, infrastructural development and provision of social services. “Massive corruption has crippled our economy and dwarfed our individual potentials including limiting the enterprising and intellectual capacity of our people.”

He made this assertion immediately after inspecting artefacts of Mallam Aminu Kano at Mumbayya House Centre of Democracy, Kano. President Buhari In his words: “Those peddling rumours of Buhari’s death are enemies who by hook or crook want to be Vice President to Osinbajo but unfortunately they woefully failed because Buhari is coming back safely and healthy,” he said. He equally said “Unfortunately for them, neither the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, nor Buhari trusts them. “Osinbajo is a trusted ally to his boss and he dislikes anything that would make him compromise the trust he enjoys. “Buhari has a daunting task of fumigating his government, cleanse it and flush out these hyenas who eat from the nation’s treasury without pain. “It is open fact that today, politicians are only interested in getting power to use as launching pad of their personal businesses”, he said.

Chinese company spark controversy with their "coconut juice" that can enlarge breast

A advert by a Chinese drink company, has sparked lots of criticism, as it claims that its drink can enlarge breast.

Well endowed models running on the beach with their breast almost popping out from what they
were wearing, with the said drink in one hand, were used for the advert, which had the slogan 'A can a day and you'll be white, tender and busty', while the model says: 'A can of Coconut Palm a day will give you a graceful figure.'

It is now expected that the country's Consumer Protection Bureau as well as the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television will investigate claims made in the controversial advert, as no company, that doesn't produce nutritional products, is allowed to make such claims under the Chinese regulations.

The company might also be sanctioned for sexualized imagery, and vulgar language used in the advert.

W-I-C-K-E-D! Kidnappers kill Abducted NB Staff, Dump Corpes In The Bush

As 48-year-old Idemudia Charles a staff of the Nigerian Breweries Plc left his Lagos home on February 11, 2017, for a journey to his home town in Uromi, Edo State, he bade his wife goodbye and planted a kiss on the cheeks of his three children, with a promise to be back three days later. Thereafter, he entered his car, a Sienna with plate number KJA 612 AW, still waving at his family members who stood at the entrance of the door until the vehicle went out of sight. It is two weeks today since Charles left home. He never lived to fulfil his promise to his family to return after three days. This is because as you read this piece, the heavily built dark complexioned man is lying in a morgue in Edo State stone dead! A bullet lodged in his shoulder and fore head by suspected dare- devil kidnappers snuffed life out of him. Mission unaccomplished It was gathered that late Charles was always fond of travelling to the village to see his aged parents. On arriving Benin city, the Edo State capital that fateful day, he stopped to pick one of his sisters with whom he continued the journey to Ewhohi village in Uromi. But that was never to be, as the ongoing conversation between them was interrupted by sporadic gunshots which rattled motorists plying that route. Like a Hollywood movie, a vehicle, barricaded the highway, close to Ehor, thereby forcing motorists to stop abruptly. Some gun wielding men then jumped out of the vehicle. While some of them kept shooting, others peeped into vehicles that stopped, until they got to Charles. Eye witnesses said “When they got to his car, one of them said yes, this is the man we are looking for.” One of them dragged the driver, a huge dark man, out of the car and took him across the road , into the bush. The gunman who took him was masked while others were not but as he was about to enter the bush, the masked man removed the hood. “Our phones were collected from us by the gunmen. After the operation, some of them entered the vehicle and zoomed off while others went in the same direction with their member who took one of the motorists (Charles) away.” Demand for ransom – Day 1 Crime Guard gathered that Charles’ sister related what happened to members of his family who subsequently alerted the Police. A team of policemen who stormed the scene, recovered his vehicle and took it to the station while search for his rescue continued. Same day, the kidnappers contacted Charles’ family, demanding N100 million ransom for his release. Negotiation according to sources from Ewhohi continued until the kidnappers settled for N5 million. Family sources hinted that “News of the kidnapped was revealed to Charles’ wife by his younger brother. At first, the kidnappers demanded N100 million for his release, threatening to kill him if we did not make the money available. One of them told us that Charles could afford it, since he was paid N50 million from his place of work. We told them it was not possible, that he was just a supervisor in their security department. The following day (Sunday) they called my brother’s wife and told her to send them recharge card that they have been using theirs for negotiation since his abduction. She obliged them. We started running around for money. One of our brothers had to travel to Lagos to get some money from Charles’ wife. Call to NB “On Monday, he spoke with us. This time around, he said we should go with one of his friends to meet his boss, one Mr Prosper, at Nigerian Breweries. The kidnappers started negotiating with some staff of Nigerian Breweries. Some staff of the company even paid token into Charles wife’s account. At the end of the day, we realised N500,000. But when we told the kidnappers, they asked if the money was meant for sachet water.” Game change : Day 3 “ By Monday the kidnappers called again and said that they were not shifting ground from N5 million. At that point, they gave my brother, Charles the phone. He begged us to rally round and get money for his release that he was not comfortable there. He told us that he had N500,000 in his account which he intended to refund to whoever would loan us , by the time he came back. When they called again, Charles started crying. He said they had shot him in the hand. He begged passionately that we should look for every possible way to raise money for his release. He gave us his pin number and instructed his wife to go and withdraw the N500,000 from his account. As he was talking, he was writhing in pains and we could hear them beating him. I could not stand his groaning at a point, so I switched off the phone,” sources said. Fruitless endeavour : Day 4 By the time donations from NB and those from relatives and friends, including the N500,000 withdrawn from Charles’ account were polled together, the distraught family was able to realise N900,000. Apprehension then set in, when they contacted the kidnappers to inform them of an increase, only to be prevented from speaking with Charles. Rather, they instructed that the money should be paid into Charles sister’s account in Benin, while one of his brothers should leave Lagos for Benin, from where he would withdraw the money and take to a designated point, before their brother would be released. Crime Guard gathered that Charles’ brother was directed to several points where he was to drop the money without any sight of a receiver from the kidnappers‘ end. At this point, the negotiator became afraid, apparently thinking it could be a plough to kidnap him as well. He was said to have left the isolated place after waiting endlessly. Amidst the anxiety came a call from one of the kidnappers instructing that nobody should call them again in respect of the ransom. A family source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said: “While our brother was at the designated point, the kidnappers called to ask where he was. But he said he did not know the place. They told him to give the phone to any child around so as to know his location. But he was too scared to do so because he just lost his wife last month.” Tension heighten – Day 5 Uneasy calm pervaded the Uromi home of Pa Idemudia, following the unusual silence from the kidnappers. A member of the family was said to have called the kidnappers line consecutively, without any response. Sources hinted that “at this point, his parents were agitated, so also was his wife who kept calling us to get an update. When we told her that the money had not been paid, she started crying and praying for her husband’s safe arrival. Then, we received a call from one of the kidnappers, informing us not to worry about paying the ransom any more. They said that the situation had changed and that we should go and use the money to buy coffin for his burial.” Fear confirmed- Day 6 Their worst nightmare was confirmed last Friday, after news filtered in that the remains of Charles was found along the highway. Anxious family members who went to confirm the claim, came back dejected and forlorn. On closer observation, Crime Guard was informed that Charles was shot on the shoulder and fore head. Family sources hinted that a farmer found the corpse in the forest and alerted policemen. Efforts to reach Charles’ widow failed as she was said to have travelled with her three children to the village. But police sources at the Edo state Police command, stated that investigation into the kidnap and murder was on. Concerted effort made to get NB’s reaction failed as its Public Relations Officer, Mr Patrick Olowookere stated that he had no detail of the incident.

Don't Abandon Buhari, CAN Begs Christians

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has once again asked Christians to continue praying for President Muhammadu Buhari until he returns to the country hale and hearty. This is contained in a statement signed by Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, Special Assistant Media and made available to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja. CAN President, Dr Samson Ayokunle The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Femi Adesina, on Tuesday in Abuja said the results of President’s medical tests suggested further rest. The CAN President, Rev Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, urged Nigerians especially Christians not to cease praying for the President, the acting President and the country until he returns in good health and sound mind. Ayokunle, reminded Christians that it is their responsibility to pray for the country and her leaders in season and out of season. “I call on all well meaning Nigerians, especially Christians not to cease praying for President Muhammadu Buhari as he takes further rest as advised by his doctors. “It is needless reminding you that as Christians, our responsibilities include but not limited to making supplications, prayers, and intercessions, for all that are in the position of authority. `That we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour…’” (1 Timothy 2:1-2)> He also allayed fears being expressed in some quarters that the prolonged absence of Buhari has created a vacuum in the Presidency cited the transfer of power to the Vice President. “We don’t see the need for any hue and cry being made by some people that his unprecedented absence could create a vacuum in the Presidency. “President Buhari has done what is needful by transferring power to the Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo who is up to the task. “The Church should also continue praying for him for divine wisdom, knowledge and understanding as he discharges his constitutional responsibilities.” Ayokunle called on the security agencies to rise up to the security challenges in the Southern Kaduna by flushing out the hoodlums who are still killing innocent people. “We call on the security agencies in the country to stop the killings in Kafanchan despite the presence of policemen and soldiers in the area. “We heard of recent attacks in Atakar and Kaninkon villages of Kaura and Jema’a Local Government Areas in the state. “All hands should be on deck to flush out those criminals from their hideouts in order to restore a permanent peace to the Southern Kaduna communities once and for all,’’ Ayokunle said.

The icing on the cake was the Next Rated crown he won at the Headies 2016. It is only normal that he should give his fans a project of his own, hence this mixtape, “Life is Eazi, Volume 1: Accra to Lagos” comprising of 11 songs and 3 bonus tracks. The title is alludes to his journey through the music industry, first gaining recognition in Ghana before making his way into the Nigerian music circle. The much-awaited project albeit is thematically one-dimensional, with Eazi utilizing Ghana Hiplife tunes for most of the songs. Without much ado, I shall delve into a song-by-song analysis of the mixtape:
Leg Over
This track was released as far back as December in anticipation of the EP. In typical Eazi style, Leg Over compares girlish maneuvers to the popular soccer skill which involves using leg movements to fool your opponent. Eazi comes through with a pretty solid hook and verse to go along with it. Pretty decent start to the EP

Man United full of confidence ahead of EFL Cup final – Smalling

Man United full of confidence ahead of EFL Cup final – Smalling

Chris Smalling said Manchester United are heading into the EFL Cup final in confident mood despite Henrikh Mkhitaryan picking up an injury in Thursday’s 1-0 Europa League victory over Saint-Etienne.
Mkhitaryan scored the decisive goal at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard before being substituted due to an apparent hamstring injury, but Smalling insisted that morale is high throughout the United squad ahead of their Wembley clash with Southampton.
Saint-Etienne’s home crowd provided a carnival atmosphere throughout the second leg of the last-32 tie, which United won 4-0 on aggregate, but Smalling said the noise in the ground did not hinder Jose Mourinho’s men as they picked up their fifth consecutive win in all competitions.

Night Operation: Customs Stole Our 18,000 Bags Of Rice In The Night-Sango Traders

ABEOKUTA – Rice sellers in Sango-Ota market in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State yesterday, alleged that men of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, broke into their shops and carted away 18,000 bags of rice in the wee hours of the day. The traders, alongside youth in the area because of that, blocked the Ota-end of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway for over 12 hours to protest what they called invasion of their shops. The traders who betrayed emotions said the men of the NCS damaged the padlocks and doors of over 60 shops located inside Sango-Ota motor park, and carted away 18,000 bags of rice and jerry cans of vegetable oil. *The blocked Abeokuta-Lagos expressway by rice sellers to protest seizure of their goods by Customs The Customs operatives were said to have invaded the market around 1.00 am with about 15 trucks to cart away the bags of rice and jerry cans of vegetable oil. But, in a swift reaction, the NCS dismissed the figures being bandied by the traders. Both the Public Relations Officers, Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun Area Command Usman Abubakar and Federal Operating Unit, FOU, Ikeja, Lagos, Jerome Attah, who spoke with Vanguard on phone denied the allegation of seizure of 18,000 bags of rice, stating that the operatives only took away 1,870 bags of rice. They also said their operatives did not break into anyone’s shop in the market but only went into a warehouse where those contraband goods were kept. They said they only took away 1,870 bags of rice and not 18,000 bags as claimed. Vanguard learned that the incident led to a protest by some angry youths and rice sellers who barricaded both sides of the Lagos-Abeokuta Express way shortly before the overhead bridge at Ota with disused tyres and planks, and disrupted vehicular movement. Motorists were not allowed to move into or outside Sango-Ota, from Lagos-end, Abeokuta-end, and Iju-Winners-Oju Ore end. Motorists were forced to make use of alternative routes via Toll-gate and Joju area. Efforts by policemen from the Sango-Ota Division of the state police command to disperse the protesters were futile. An eyewitness told Vanguard at the scene yesterday that the operation lasted for about one hour, adding that the Customs operatives were joined by men of OP Mesa, a military security outfit. An eye witness told Vanguard that some of the security men wore hoods, to conceal their identities. Leader of the rice sellers in the market, Alhaja Wosilat Salako, put the value of the 18,000 bags of rice carted away at N378million. She lamented that many of them took loans to buy these goods and had run into debts with the seizure. She said in Yoruba, “Around 1am on Wednesday, some operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service in company with some men from the OP Mesa invaded over 60 shops where we kept bags of rice and vegetable oil. “They carted away no fewer than 18,000 bags of rice and jerry cans of vegetable oil worth N378million. “They broke into these shops by destroying the padlocks, the burglary proofs and steel doors, before removing the bags of rice and vegetable oil. Some of our members who kept money inside lockers in their shops had the money stolen by the ‘invaders’.” Salako appealed to the Comptroller- General of Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali (retd) to intervene in their case and ensure that their goods were returned to them, because they bought the goods in the market and were not involved in smuggling. “We bought these goods with our money, I believe if they have issues, it should be at the border and not coming inside the market to cart away our goods. “ One of the traders, Okunola Raufu while lamenting the losses, said her shop was broken into and 150 bags of rice taken away. “I got to the vicinity of the market around 1am on Wednesday, I saw the NCS operatives and some soldiers supervising the loading of the bags of rice into waiting trucks which they brought. “They left around 2am, with some of them wearing masks to conceal their identity. We are traders doing genuine business, we are not smugglers. This is where we get money to train our children.” Another rice seller in the market Kudirat Fasinu, popularly known as Iya Okiki, who spoke with Vanguard, fighting back tears, said she just bought 125 jerry cans of vegetable oil, in both 10 and 25 litres worth N1.5million and all were carted away. She lamented, “I borrowed the money to buy these goods, from this receipt you can see that I bought the goods inside this market, I don’t engage in smuggling. I appeal to the state government to help me retrieve my goods, if they want me to survive. The Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area Local Government chairman, Prince Oladele Adeniji, who also visited the scene, told Vanguard that he was told that operatives of the NCS came to the market inside the Sango-Ota motor park and took away bags of rice and jerrycans of vegetable oils. He said he had contacted the state Controller of NCS, and the state Police Commissioner over the matter. Adeniji said he had also contacted the state government. He said, “I have appealed to the rice sellers to remain calm and that the matter will be resolved. “I have contacted the state Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service, state Commissioner of Police and the state government over the crisis. I believe everything will soon be resolved.” When contacted , the Public Relations Officer, FOU, Ikeja, Lagos, Jerome Attah explained that the unit had been monitoring the activities of smugglers in that axis before they struck. He said suspected smugglers had been using motorcycles to ferry smuggled bags of rice into the market, and their operatives had traced them to the warehouse. He said, “Our men have been monitoring the activities of the smugglers who smuggled bags of rice to the warehouse. They normally chained smuggled bags of rice to motorcycles and ferried them to the warehouse on top speed. “We hired seven trucks to evacuate the smuggled bags of rice. Our men could have taken everything met at the warehouse, but the number of trucks hired could not contain the consignment met on ground. “Our men did not break into any shop. What we have done is not contrary to the Constitution.” Also speaking on the incident, the Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun Area Command, Usman Abubakar, said those who went to raid the Sango-Ota rice market were from the Federal Operations Unit, Lagos. He said their action was based on information they received that contraband goods had been smuggled into the market. He said, “The operatives that went to raid the Sango-Ota rice market were not from Ogun State command. They were officials of Nigeria Customs Service attached to Federal Operations Unit, Lagos. “They went on official patrol as enshrined in Section 158 of Customs and Excise management Act Cap 645 Laws of Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004. “They got information that some contraband were brought to the market, so they went there to evacuate 1,870 of 50Kg bags of rice and 43 kegs of vegetable oil from the warehouse. “The value of the bags of rice taken away is N12,445,250. There was no casualty and no shop was broken into by Customs officials. If any shop was broken into, it must be by the miscreants who might have taken advantage of the incident.” Abubakar said some miscreants waylaid them when the seven trucks in which the bags of rice and vegetable oil were loaded were being driven to their Ikeja, Lagos headquarters. Meanwhile, as at 3.30pm when this story was filed, the protesting market women were yet to vacate the highway. They said they were waiting for the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, to address them.
