Soldiers invade Borno JAMB office to register girlfriends

Some soldiers invaded the office of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Maiduguri, Borno state capital, on Friday, to assist some young ladies register for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The officers who were unruly threatened to beat up anyone who did not follow their orders.
Since the commencement of registration last week, hundreds of applicants have been trooping to the JAMB office, located opposite a Zenith Bank branch in the state capital, on a daily basis.
Officials of the examination body had been attending to the candidates on a first-come-first-serve basis, until Friday’s invasion.
Some of the affected candidates, who are residents of the ancient city, confirmed that some of the officers were having affairs with the candidates who brought them there.
The soldiers were said to have harassed those who had been standing in queue for hours, because they failed to give way to their girlfriends to complete their registration.
They also threatened to beat up the JAMB officials who did not cooperate with them.
Zarah Musa, a frustrated applicant, narrated her experience to newsmen.
“We were all in the queue when these soldiers arrived with many girls. They insisted that we give way for their girlfriends to complete their registration,” she said.
“Initially we resisted but we had no choice than to comply when they threatened to beat us up, including the JAMB officials, who had been conducting the registration orderly.
“Now, we are left under the scorching sun, while the soldiers are inside facilitating registration for their lovers.”
Jummai Amidu, another applicant, corroborated Musa’s claim.
She said the whole process had turned into “soldiers’ affair”, wondering the fate of those who do not have soldiers as boyfriends.

Pastor who arrested Kemi Olunloyo isn't christ like- Daddy Freeze

OAP Daddy Freeze has taken to IG again for the second time to write about the continuous detention of Kemi Olunloyo in less than 24 hours saying, what is happening to her shouldn’t be from a Pastor. He however used Bible verses to support his arguments. Read how Freeze preached the gospel on his page below…
Are pastors supposed to save or enslave?
Now this woman is getting more famous by the day, what you thought would break her, would only serve to bake her and then make her. ~FRZ
Here are the words of Apostle Paul taken from 1st Corinthians chapter 4, reading from verse 11; my comments are those in brackets!. CONTINUE...
1st Cor 4:11; Even now we go hungry and thirsty, and we don’t have enough clothes to keep warm. We are often beaten and have no home. (Pastors in Nigeria are the opposite of this, they are never beaten, never hungry and have HUGE HOMES) -
12: We work wearily with our own hands to earn our living. (They don't work o! They just feed of your tithes mostly) We bless those who curse us.who? They imprison those who dare curse them) We are patient with those who abuse us. (
13: We appeal gently when evil things are said about us.( appeal against KEMI was everything but gentle
Yet we are treated like the world’s garbage, like everybody’s trash—right up to the present moment. (This would soon happen trust me! Many pastors in Nigeria have become 'pisstakes' and the world would continue to piss on them, till the truth about Jesus is told and the #FreeTheSheeple movement is here to liberate imprisoned minds, as the birth of true Christianity is only moments away!) ~FRZ
Here are the last 7 statements Jesus Christ made as he lay dying on the cross. Which of the statements included "arrest them" or "sue them"?
1. Luke 23:34: Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.
2. Luke 23:43: Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.
3. John 19:26–27: Woman, behold your son. Son, behold your mother.
4. Matthew 27:46 & Mark 15:34 My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?
5. John 19:28: I thirst.
6. John 19:30: It is finished. (From the Greek "Tetelestai" which is also translated "It is accomplished", or "It is complete".)
7. Luke 23:46: Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.
While Jesus died for our sins, many Nigerian pastors are dying for your money!

APC heads to court over Obiano’s LG transition chairmen

ONITSHA— Barely 48 hours after Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State appointed transition caretaker council chairmen for the 21 local government areas in the state, the All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday, vowed to contest the appointments in a court of law if they were not dissolved immediately.
Addressing newsmen at the party’s secretariat, in Awka, the state chairman, Mr Emeka Ibe, described the appointments as illegal, unconstitutional and an aberration as they ran contrary to section 7 of the 1999 constitution as amended, which stipulates that there shall be elected local government chairmen across the country.
He said: “It is a pity that Anambra State is still fixated to the days of backwardness, lawlessness and impunity. What is happening now across the country is that people are fixing dates for the election of council chairmen but here, the governor has brazenly appointed caretaker committee members at the council areas which is unlawful.
“We, in the APC, are against what the governor has done. There is a suit in court instituted by our party praying the court to compel the governor to conduct local government election before the scheduled November 18 governorship poll.
”We are calling on the governor to, as a matter of urgency, dissolve the transition caretaker committee chairmen and councillors and conduct council election before the governorship poll because we will not recognize them.”
According to him, the chairman pre-emted the judgment of our pending matter by quickly sending a list of the transition caretaker members, on Monday, for the House of Assembly to approve on Tuesday this week.
“ But l want to tell you that we shall go back to the CJ’s court to challenge the matter. We believe that the reason for the governor to take the action during this election was for him to use the transition chairmen to raise money for his election by collecting the federal allocation due them and give them a paltry sum since they were not elected”.

Buhari’ll still travel to London for medicals — Presidency

THE Presidency last night said it was not in the know of any sudden change of mind by President Muhammadu Buhari to travel back to London for another round of medical check-up.

The reaction was prompted by some reports that Buhari, who had upon his return from London on a medical vacation barely three weeks ago, said he would not go back for further treatment but would rather import doctors to treat him in Abuja.
Speaking through the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the Presidency said the news of the President not going back was false.
He, however, did not specify the date of Buhari’s proposed return to the United Kingdom.
Only on Wednesday, the federal government said that it would not disclose the medical bills of the President.
“It is false news. We are not aware of the reported advance movements. The last time the President spoke about this, he said he would return to his doctors after some time. We are not aware that this has changed,” Shehu said.
Social was yesterday awashed with information that the Presidency had chosen to bring to the country the President’s doctors to stave off his travelling to the UK for continuation of his treatment.

Ali’s uniform controversy a distraction —Dogara

Abuja — Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, yesterday, took a look at the ongoing controversy between the Senate and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Col.Hameed Ali (retd), describing the development as mere distraction.
Dogara, who fielded questions from senior journalists in Abuja, said  the most important thing that should have been considered was whether the man had delivered on his mandate.
Although he did not mention the upper legislative chamber in his briefing, Dogara said it was also necessary to look at what the Nigerian laws say about wearing of uniforms by public officers and see whether any of the laws had been adhered to or breached by Ali.
“So you have to look at all these issues before you come to a conclusion. As far as I am concerned, these are mere distractions. They are not supposed to be; the main issue is delivery. What is it that we are delivering? That is it,” Dogara said.
The speaker said  although he could not say whether the House of Representatives would support the resolution passed by the Senate against Ali, he would only wait to see what happens when the discussion gets to the floor of the House for debate.
Buhari’s FG hasn’t failed Nigerians
The speaker, who also took a look at the performance of the Federal Government since coming to power in 2015, claimed that the administration could not be accused of disappointing Nigerians, given where it was coming from and what it inherited from the previous government.
He said: “We have gone very far in trying to tackle this issue of insurgency and as a matter of fact, all hostile spots have been liberated. This government, through various interventions, has been able to ensure that the terrorists are not holding unto any swathe of land.
“I believe this is one major thing that has given some hope to Nigerians. For the very first time, we are in a position to overcome this problem, and it is critical, even if it’s for nothing else that our citizens in the North-East zone down to Abuja can move around more freely than before, that is something.”
On Peace Corps Bill
But the speaker expressed disappointment with the treatment meted out to the Peace Corps of Nigeria even with the passage of the bill to make it a national security outfit in Nigeria by the National Assembly.
Dogara made it clear that the National Assembly would muster the required majority in both chambers to veto the President on the matter if he withholds his assent to the National Peace Corps Bill already passed and transmitted to the Presidency.
He maintained that there could be no limit to spending in securing the lives and property of Nigerians since the government exists to protect lives and property.
He warned: “So, the Bill is still there before the President for his assent. If he doesn’t assent to it for whatever reason, we are at liberty to recall it to parliament and muster the 2/3 in the House and Senate and pass in spite of Mr. President’s veto. But right now that is not the discussion.”
The speaker also expressed dissatisfaction with the way the executive has been treating resolutions from the NASS with levity and said a committee had been raised to compile resolutions passed but not complied with by the executive for necessary actions.
LG autonomy
Dogara promised to take steps to ensure the amendment of the Local Government Law in Nigeria to give autonomy to the 774 councils in the country and return the conduct of local elections to INEC to ensure credibility, fairness and competitiveness as opposed to the current hijack of the process by the respective states.
He said the removal of autonomy from local governments had created middlemen who denied the councils of the needed development.
He said: “The current system is not working, and it has become a system whereby some have constituted themselves into middlemen along the lines; they grab the resources meant for the development at the grass root and appropriate it the way they deem fit.”
“There is a twin evil which is that of state independent electoral commissions that gives birth to a total mockery of democracy in the way the State Independent Electoral Commissions conduct elections that are usually won by just one party in power in the respective states.
“I have never seen where democracy is mocked like in Nigerian local government elections.
I don’t know how we can continue to mock ourselves that we are practising democracy at the third tier of government,’’ he said.

Trump targets dissenting Republicans

President Donald Trump lashed out at rebellious conservatives Thursday, threatening to “ fight them ” in 2018 legislative elections if they “ don’ t get on the team. ”
Deepening a fissure that destroyed his first major effort to pass a law , Trump took aim at members of the so - called “ Freedom Caucus, ” branding them as a foe in the same vein as Democrats .
“ The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they don’ t get on the team, & fast. We must fight them , & Dems , in 2018!” Trump tweeted .
Trump’ s characteristically strong - handed approach is another effort to bring the fiercely conservative group , which has repeatedly voted against Republican leaders in Congress, into line.
Most of the group of 30 House Republicans rejected a previous White House ultimatum to vote for Trump’ s health care reform , delivered the new president a stinging political defeat.
The Freedom Caucus has long been a thorn in the side of Republican leaders . But during eight years of a Democratic White House , their differences with mainstream Republicans were contained .
With Republicans now in charge of the White House , the House of Representatives and the Senate, those ideological differences have again come to the fore.
If they choose to , the Freedom Caucus could make Trump’ s life difficult in upcoming budget and tax debates .
If they decide to oppose the White House , Trump will be unable to lose any other Republican votes and may even need to court Democratic votes to pass his initiatives.

FIFA propose nine African World Cup spots

All football regions will see their World Cup slots increased when the tournament expands to 48 teams in 2026, with Africa the biggest winner , according to FIFA recommendations released Thursday.
The plan to expand the competition beyond its current 32-team format, which is subject to approval at FIFA’ s May Congress in Bahrain , guarantees Africa nine places , marking an increase of four .
Asia , currently guaranteed between four and five World Cup entries , will get eight slots , while European confederation UEFA gets a boost from 13 to 16.
The confederation for North , Central America and the Caribbean ( CONCACAF) will have six places , above its current level of between three and four.

Oceana, which has not been guaranteed an entry in past World Cups , will be assured one spot.
The January 10 decision to expand the World Cup marked a major victory for FIFA President Gianni Infantino , who has been on the job for just over a year .

it would be impossible to manage Arsenal – Pochettino

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has quashed speculation linking him with the Barcelona job by insisting he could never manage the Spanish giants.

Pochettino was pictured meeting with Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu in the Catalan city last week amid reports he is a leading contender to replace Luis Enrique when he leaves at the end of the season.
But the 45-year-old Argentine has already managed Barcelona’s city rivals Espanyol, as well as playing more than 200 games for them.
Pochettino, whose stock is high after leading Tottenham to second place in the Premier League this term, claimed his chat with Bartomeu was nothing to do with the Barcelona post and said he wouldn’t want to betray his old Spanish team by moving to the Nou Camp.

“It was true that there was a coincidence in a bar in Barcelona last Tuesday. I knew him for a long time before he was chairman at Barcelona,” Pochettino told reporters on Thursday.
“Many people say hello and you spend five minutes together. That’s the reality.

“I’m an Espanyol supporter. I don’t need to speak too much. If Daniel Levy sacks me in a few years and I’m free, it would be impossible to manage Arsenal.
“In football, it’s hard to keep loyal with your heart and emotion but I believe that before being a manager or a player, you should be loyal. I’m an Espanyol fan. I love Espanyol.”
Asked if that meant he would definitely not be taking over at Barcelona, Pochettino said: “I think my answer was very clear.”

Barcelona assistant manager Juan Carlos Unzue is the current leading contender to replace Enrique, while Athletic Bilbao manager Ernesto Valverde is reported to be in contention.

NYSC Ekiti Reacts To Story Of Brutalizing A Female Corper

In a swift reaction to debunk claim of maltreating a corps member , the EKiti state NYSC has issued out a REJOINDER to counter claim that a NYSC Official Brutalized a corper in Ekiti for not wearing her jacket as false .
Angel Eluna is unknown to NYSC Ekiti State . I wish our young Nigerians will be truthful and bold enough to narrate issues as they really are and put their real names on such narrations.
The real corps member involved in this matter is CONFIDENCE AZUBUIKE (EK /16 B /2389 ).
Confidence was not molested by any official of NYSC Ekiti State . Rather it was the other way round . Confidence in her statement to the State Coordinator said she held the official ’ s shirt by his collar because she did not know he was an official .

She quickly released him when the Local Government Inspector introduced himself . Investigation into the incident which required the call for the corps member ’ s file has revealed a whole lot about who Confidence is .
One wonders the source of Confidence ’ s confidence in being so unruly. You need to see what she wore for Community Development Service . Her cap was wrong, White T - Shirt was something else , her canvas was Pink , Khakhi Jacket tied round her waist . Above all, she refused to be corrected and would rather fight the NYSC official .
Let it be known that the reddish patch on her arm was caused by the long chain of her handbag strap. It was as she held the officer ’ s shirt that the bag strap pressed on her arm leaving the reddish spot because she is fair . This is the Account of an individual that witnessed the incident .
NYSC Ekiti is coordinated by a mother who will not allow any of her corps members to be maltreated by anybody. However , she will not tolerate any misbehaviour on the part of the corps members .
She calls them “ My sons and daughters ”. She will not hesitate to call her erring daughter Confidence to order and that she will do in this matter .
