Girl with three legs ‘walks’ after surgery

Girl with three legs ‘walks’ after surgery

A toddler born with three legs — because body parts of a twin had grown inside her — was returning home to Bangladesh Friday after complex and rare surgery in Australia enabled her to walk and run, her doctor said.
Three-year-old Choity Khatun was given little prospect of survival until she was brought to Melbourne last year by Australian charity Children First Foundation.
A team of surgeons spent several months mapping out a procedure to reconstruct her anatomy.
“A twin had grown out of her pelvis but the twin was only part of a twin… The problem is there’s no rulebook for this because she’s a very unique individual so you have to try and work out what was where,” Chris Kimber, the paediatric surgery head at Monash Children’s Hospital, told AFP.
“When Choity arrived in Australia, she was very malnourished, she couldn’t walk properly at all,” said Kimber.

Mourinho sets sights on Liverpool and Arsenal

Mourinho sets sights on Liverpool and Arsenal

Jose Mourinho identified Liverpool and Arsenal as Manchester United’s chief rivals for Champions League qualification following his side’s 0-0 draw at fellow top-four contenders Manchester City.
Thursday’s stalemate at the Etihad Stadium left United just a point below local foes City, who occupy the Premier League’s fourth and final Champions League qualifying berth.
But Mourinho believes Liverpool, two points above United in third having played a game more, and Arsenal, four points below them having played a game less, are now their principal rivals.
“I think Man City is going to finish top four,” the United manager said.
“The matches they have to play, I see them doing that. I think it’s between us, Arsenal and Liverpool.”

United issues a 10-point plan for not being a horrible airline

United Airlines has announced a set ten new policies it promises will “improve customer experience,” and, presumably, ensure that the company never repeats the incident earlier this month in which a passenger was violently removed from an overbooked flight.
In the new rules, United pledges to “limit use of law enforcement to safety and security issues only”; to not require customers to involuntarily give up their seats “unless safety or security is at risk”; and to raise compensation for passengers denied boarding from $1,350 to $10,000. The company also promises to “empower employees to resolve customer service issues” — a key pledge, as employees involved in the April 9th incident stated that they did not have the authority to act otherwise.
United has also reached a settlement with the passenger removed from that flight, one David Dao. A spokesman for the company said in a statement: “We are pleased to report that United and Dr. Dao have reached an amicable resolution of the unfortunate incident that occurred aboard flight 3411.” During the incident, Dao suffered a concussion, a broken nose, and lost two teeth. He had paid for his seat on the flight, but was randomly selected for “de-boarding” after United overbooked the trip.

Smalling, Jones have future at Man United – Mourinho

Jose Mourinho says Chris Smalling and Phil Jones still have futures at Manchester United despite accusing the pair of a “cautious” approach in their recovery from injury.
The United manager had challenged the pair to declare themselves fit for Thursday’s derby with Manchester City despite each missing the last seven games.
But they have both been ruled out of the clash at the Etihad Stadium, along with Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Juan Mata and Marcos Rojo. It leaves United with Eric Bailly and Daley Blind as their only fit senior centre-backs.
However, despite failing to meet his demand, Mourinho insists Smalling and Jones can work their way back into his good books.

On her blog, Sonja dubs Gaga her "guardian angel."
"Honestly, if it wasn't for Gaga and the financial contributions from everyone so far I really do not think I would be here," she said. "Let's just say I understand why people give up and die because they do not have the resources that I have been given."

Uche Ogbodo Speaks On Nollywood & Motherhood

The Nollywood actress in an interview with Punch spoke on how Nollywood used to be a 'cult', how she made her name in the game and being a single mother.

Nollywood

Nollywood was previously structured like a cult. As such, you’d have to belong to a certain clique to be able to make a headway. It was hard coming into the industry because the people who were already there didn’t pave the way for newcomers. However, I am blessed because when I joined Nollywood, I had several opportunities to audition for good roles and eventually, I got them without belonging to a clique. Initially, it was hard to get roles until I moved to Lagos from Enugu where I was previously based.

Motherhood

I am a single mother and I am able to create a work-life balance because I have a house help as well as my sister who has been with me since I returned from America, where I was delivered of my daughter. She is like my daughter’s second mother and she takes good care of her. My daughter doesn’t even miss me when I have to go on set. She understands that mummy has to work so, when I tell her that I am off, she lets me be.
