Champions League draw: Chelsea, Man United learn their last-16 opponents

Chelsea will play Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League after the draw for the knockout round was made in Nyon on Monday.

The Blues will take on the La Liga giants in the new year after they finished as runners-up in their group to Roma.

Manchester United were drawn against Spanish side Sevilla.

Liverpool FC were pitted against Portuguese side Porto in the first knockout phase of Europe’s elite club competition.

Tottenham will take on Serie A champions Juventus for a place in the quarter-finals, while Manchester City will play Swiss side Basel.

When is the Champions League round of 16?

The Champions League last 16 ties will be played on 13-14 and 20-21 February 2018, with the return legs taking place on 6-7 and 13-14 March 2018.

How did the English teams qualify?
Manchester United booked their place in the last 16 of Europe’s elite club competition by winning Group A ahead of Swiss side FC Basel.

The Red Devils are playing in this season’s Champions League after having won the Europa League under Jose Mourinho last term.

Chelsea, meanwhile, secured their spot in the first knockout round as group runners-up behind Roma, with Atletico Madrid finishing third and failing to qualify for the next round.

Tottenham Hotspur topped their group in style ahead of Real Madrid, with the Lilywhites having been in impressive form in Europe’s elite club competition.

Liverpool FC also secured their progress from Group E by winning their group. Jurgen Klopp’s men signed off in style with a 7-0 thrashing of Spartak Moscow at Anfield last Wednesday night.

Manchester City transferred their brilliant Premier League form to the European stage by topping Group F and finishing above Shakhtar Donetsk.
