Timo Werner hints at Liverpool switch

The Germany international has scored 42 goals in 77 games for the Bundesliga club since joining in 2016 and has been included in Joachim Low’s World Cup squad. Werner’s form has resulted in him being linked with a move to the Premier League this summer and Liverpool in particular, who concluded a deal for his teammate Keita last August.

To become a world-class player, I’ll probably have to play in an even better team at club level,’ he told Welt. ‘I want to be honest, Naby Keita hasn’t become world class with us either, he may now be at Liverpool.’

Liverpool has already wrapped up the signing of Monaco’s defensive midfielder Fabinho and is pressing ahead with their pursuit of France international Nabil Fekir, while they continue to be linked with a move for Roma goalkeeper Alisson, who has been valued at £79million.

Earlier this year Werner spoke of his desire to move to England in order to further his career, but at that stage was in no rush to move to the Premier League. ‘Yes, playing in the Premier League is a dream for me,’ he told FourFourTwo.

‘I would like to play for two or three clubs, and Manchester United are one of those clubs. ‘But probably not in the next few years – later, when my English is a little bit better! I’m very comfortable at RB Leipzig, though.’
