Arsenal To Meet Xhaka Over Unsportsmanlike Character

Following the disappointing 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday, arsenal management will be meeting with underfire captain Granit Xhaka in relation to his sportsman reaction after being substituted during the second half of the game.

Xhaka is expected to return training on Tuesday like other players in preparation for their Carabao fourth-round match against Liverpool on Wednesday.

Xhaka who has committed more fouls than any other Arsenal player this season was seen swearing and making wrong gestures to the Arsenal fans while he was working off the pitch, however, the English FA will not be taking any actions against Xhaka.

It is uncertain if Xhaka would be stripped off his captaincy position or would be charged to pay some fines, but when asked in a post-match conference if Xhaka would still lead the club as their captain, Unai Emery replied: Now is not the time to talk about that.

Speaking after Arsenal’s draw with Palace, Gunners head coach Emery admitted Xhaka’s reaction was wrong and refused to back him when asked if he would remain captain.

“He was wrong,” Emery said after the game. “We need to stay calm and speak to him internally about that. He was not right to do that. “We are working with the club and the players to play under pressure. “We are going to speak to him because the reaction was wrong. We are here because we have supporters. We work for them and need to have respect for them when they are applauding us and criticizing us.”
