Fake Letter: Nigerian Man Sentenced For Applying Visa With Fake Documents

From Visa Application to spending time behind bars, the story of a Nigerian man has swiftly gone from sweet to sour due to his criminal mindset.

The Visa applicant has been apprehended, arraigned before a judge and handed a jail sentence for forging a letter of invitation to the United States Embassy officials in Lagos state.

Lukman Owolabi Ogunsuada (38 years) who was applying for B1 and B2 visa presented the fake letter to get them, he was discovered and the court found him guilty of 2-count charges of forgery placed against him by the police.

His trial lasted for 3 years before the final judgement was passed by the court, the convict stated that he edited the original letter of invitation using his phone and inserted his name. Ogunsuada said he believed the embassy would not detect the forgery.

The presiding judge, Chief Magistrate N. A Layeni at the Apapa Magistrates Court sentenced Ogunsuada 1 year imprisonment or he pays a fine of N100,000 and 200 hours of community service. On the second charge, he is handed a 20,000 fine, the sentences are expected to run concurrently.
