15 dead, 38 injured as truck plunges into river in Ogun (photos)

A Toyota Canter truck has fallen into a seasonal river called Omi river located at the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode road, not less than 15 people have been killed and 38 others sustained various forms of injury from the accident.

The Ogun Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Clement Oladele, has confirmed the incident, He said that the accident happened very early on Tuesday morning and it was a white Mitsubishi Canter with registration number XE 331 MKA which was filled with passengers it carried from Sokoto State.

Clement Oladele also added that tiredness from the driver must have caused the accident, saying that the truck swerved off the main road and dived into the dried Omi river.

He announced that rescue services are still going on and so far 15 male adults have been confirmed dead and their bodies retrieved from under the bridge.
he said;

“So far, 38 passengers in the mini truck sustained varying degrees of injuries and were taken to the State Hospital, Ijebu Ode for treatment,”.

The corpses have been taken to Sabo in Ijebu Ode, and arrangements are being made between the police and Sarkin Hausawa (King of Hausa) for a mass burial for the dead.
