Nigerians Given 12-hour Ultimatum To Leave South African Province

Foreigners staying in the South African region of Keimoes and Upington area of Northern Cape, have been given 12 hours heads up to leave the communities.

Nigerians given 12-hour ultimatum to leave South African province after cop?s fatal stabbing

Adetola Olubajo, the president of Nigeria Union in South Africa, revealed this in an announcement posted on Thursday, December 9th.

According to Olubajo, a Nigerian man allegedly stabbed and killed a South African police officer during a disagreement and this started the whole trouble. Olubajo also stated that the major witness to the incident is in critical conditions at the hospital after he was also stabbed, so the details of the disagreement are still unknown.
“After the horrific incident, the community members of Keimoes and environs went on rampage burning and destroying properties belonging to foreign nationals, Nigerians in particular. These attacks spread to Upington and Nigerians and other foreign nationals were also expelled from Upington.
Prompt Police intervention brought about calm but the situation is still tensed. Some locals were arrested by the police for public disturbance and malicious damage to properties. They appeared in a magistrates’ court this morning for bail hearing.”

He added that the Nigerian who stabbed the police officer has been apprehended and would be arraigned before a court on or before Monday.

He said;
“We commend the swift intervention of the members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the arrest of the suspect is a welcome development. We hope the police will continue to maintain law and order in the area.”
