South African Military Plane Crash-Lands In Congo

A deadly event was prevented yesterday January 9th, when a South African military aircraft crash-landed and went ablaze at the Goma airport in eastern Congo.

The C-130BZ military plane was transporting 59 passengers and had 8 crew members on board, no casualty was recorded.

The acting UN spokesperson for peacekeeping in Congo, Mathias Gillman confirmed the incident and disclosed that the military aeroplane was returning from Beni, a city in eastern Congo, where it was giving logistical aid to the South African soldiers posted to that region.

Mathias Gillman told AFP; 
“MONUSCO sent a rescue team that brought the fire under control and everyone was safely evacuated."
South Africa's National Defence Force also confirmed the incident had occurred and it will send its board of inquiry to investigate the incident.
