Unknown Gunmen Attack Kogi State, Kills 19, King Palace Burnt

The Kogi State Police command has confirmed the news that unknown gunmen attacked a community in Tawari, killing over 19 people and burning several buildings including the iconic palace of the community's king.
The gunmen who are suspected to be herdsmen were said to have ridden into the village on motorcycles, shooting, killing people and burning buildings. The gunmen who were communicating in Hausa language also stole foodstuffs from the community.

Kogi local government administrator, Hon. Musa Tanko Mohammed confirmed that 19 people died from the invasion which started at midnight.
Commissioner of Kogi state Police, CP Ede Ayuba Ekpej whose statement was releasee by Police spokesperson DCP William Aya, consoled the traditional ruler of Tawari and the whole Kogi state over the ugly incident.
CP Ekpeji also revealed that a troop of special forces, counter-terrorism unit, federal anti-robbery squad, police mobile force, and conventional police have been sent to the community to sustain peace and prevent further breakdown of law and order. 
He said; 
” I have ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Investigation to commence investigation so as to unravel the cause of the attack."
The Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has condemned the attack and also ordered a fullscale investigation into the incident.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Mr Onogwu Muhammed, Governor Bello urged the people to be calm and law-abiding, assuring them that his administration as security operatives have been directed to ensure that those who carried out the dastardly act face the law.
