Shocking: Delta State Hospital Taken Over By Dead Bodies [Photos]

There is serious concern by management of the Central Hospital, Agbor, Delta State because the mortuary has been overrun with almost 600 corpses dumped and abandoned in the hospital.

Shocking! Abandoned corpses litter Delta hospital

The mortuary was built to accommodate just 60 corpses but is packed with 600 which is over 10 times its recommended size. The hospital management plans to mass bury unidentified bodies already.

Speaking at Agbor, while hosting the Hospital Management Board of the state, Dr. Roy Maduka said that they are battling for the vast amount of people in the small space.

Dr. Maduka called on the state government to reconsider building a state-of-the-art modern hospital morgue, which, after the installation of a 33kva transformer, now has a consistent power supply. He said that the proper disposal of corpses will be encouraged by a new mortuary.

Dr. Maduka;
“The mortuary is old and relies on embalmment of bodies. The building was constructed to take about 50-60 bodies at a time.
“Currently, we have over 600 corpses in the small space. Over half of the bodies are unknown and abandoned corpses.
“We are currently making plans to conduct a mass burial for the unknown corpses in the mortuary.
“Plans are also being made to build a holding place for the abandoned corpses for a period of time before mass burial can be conducted.
“With the current constant power supply in the Hospital, it will be highly appreciated if the State Government can build a modern mortuary for the Hospital”.
