Manchester United have given Anthony Martial two things he's never had before

Manchester United's movement in the January transfer window will be remembered for the deal to bring Bruno Fernandes to the club.
The Portuguese midfielder has set the standard since his high-profile move earlier this year and fans are eager to see if his form continues when the season resumes.

Manchester United have given Anthony Martial two things he's never had before

United's deal to sign Fernandes not only brought an immediate lift to the club, but it reinvigorated their trophy ambitions and restored belief in the long-term vision under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Only a week before the 25-year-old signed United were embarrassed during a 2-0 home defeat by Burnley.
That defeat to Burnley encapsulated everything wrong with United at the time. They were low on confidence and out of ideas, as Burnley became the latest run-of-the-mill Premier League team to take advantage of Old Trafford's lost fear factor.
However, Fernandes' impact goes beyond his own performances, with his influence on Anthony Martial just as crucial in United's current 11-match unbeaten run.
In August, for the first time in his career, Martial started the season as United's main striker and in January he was provided with a playmaker at the top of his game to provide him with the goods in front of goal.
The other deal in January saw United, eventually, move for Odion Ighalo late on deadline day and his impact has been just as important in restoring the confidence Martial was missing.
With the Nigerian in the squad,
the pressure on the popular French forward has eased and United's pre-pandemic results were telling.
Since Fernandes made his debut at the beginning only Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has scored more goals than Martial, with the former Monaco striker the joint-highest scorer in the Premier League since February.
“I am loving my time at this club," Martial gleamed when he signed a new United contract last January.
“I would like to thank Ole and his coaching staff for their belief in me and for helping me to take my game to the next level. This club is all about winning trophies and I am sure the next piece of silverware is not that far away.”
A year on and the belief in Martial couldn't be stronger. Romelu Lukaku was sold in order to give him the platform to reach his peak, and both January arrivals have catered for his style of play rather than impeded it.
Next month Solskjaer will have some big decisions to make with his squad back to full fitness, but it is testament to his faith in Martial that he will be the man leading the line again.
