Arteta disappointed after loss to Brentford

Arsenal FC boss Mikel Arteta has expressed his disappointment after the opening day defeat to Brentford.

Arsenal was defeated by newly promoted Brentford last night in the first Premier league game of the 2021/2022 Season by 2 – 0.

Mikel Arteta spoke to the media shortly after the game to express his dissatisfaction over the result. And in his words he has this to say,

“I’m extremely disappointed. It’s very different the way we wanted to start the season. We didn’t start well in the first-half, we conceded a goal in an isolated action but we didn’t cope well enough with the long-balls & second ball & that’s all they needed.”

Mikel Arteta on absentees upfront: “I don’t want excuses, honestly. It’s where we are, we’re missing players, we have other players. I don’t like to hide & I don’t like excuses.”
Mikel Arteta: “We weren’t good enough to beat them. To do certain things, you have to do some basics right & we didn’t. In the box, we need more [of a] threat, as much as possible. When we get in this position [final-third], we need to be much more ruthless & we weren’t tonight.”

Mikel Arteta on starting the season on a loss: This is a long run. We started in a disappointing way, so we’ll review the game, speak to everybody with cool heads & try to put it right as quick as possible.”
Mikel Arteta on conceding from a long-throw: “It’s very difficult. They put somebody on the keeper, they can hold the keeper, it’s no free-kick, the keeper cannot move, the ball lands there & it’s a goal. It’s allowed in the Premier League.”

Arsenal will take on Chelsea next weekend at the Emirates stadium for their second game of the 2021/2022 Season.
