Federal Government bans the use of Twitter in Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria has banned the use of Twitter social media in the country.

According to statement published by the Federal Ministry for Information and Culture (FMIC) it states,

The Federal Government has suspended, indefinitely, the operations of the microblogging and social networking service, Twitter, in Nigeria. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed,
announced the suspension in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, citing the persistent use of the platform for activities that are
capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.”

The ban on twitter comes few days after the platform took down a post from the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari regarding the insecurities in the South-East as the post break the rules of the twitter community.
